About the Artist:
A native of New York City, Joe Pinckney and his family moved to Daufuskie Island, SC in 1940 when he was 10 years old. Life on the island left an impression on him. Seeking to preserve the culture and capture the life styles of the low country people, Pinckney began studying art at the New York School of Printing. Upon completing his art studies, Joe left New York in 1970 to make a permanent home for his family on Hilton Head Island.
